Hi all,
here is my problem.
1 Claiming wtc and ctc with child care, everything above board totally.
2 in march they did though claim i had an overpayment of £300 due to reporting child care change late -- so, they just took 2 months of new child care away. i tried to ring and argue that my year end income is lower and there will not be an overpayment, but in fact it is almost repaid anyway and i figured when renewal is processed it will be put right.
3 self-employed, already filed self-assessment for 2014/2015, small earnings -- much lower this year due to start of completely new business. have all invoices, bank statements, anything you can possibly imagine. very obvious business, office-based
4 received a renewal pack 25/04
5 rang to renew on 28/04 by phone -- expecting an underpayment -- income lower than the estimate i had previously given them,
6. 1st of May got text message, thank you for your renewal, wait 8 weeks. was hoping for2-3 weeks tbh
7. received a letter dated 2/05 -- weird -- from some appeals department that said repayment levels will remain the same unless i prove hardship. repayments due to end 26/5, again decided not to pursue this -- although tbh i did not file an appeal so not sure
8. 14/5 called today to see if maybe they at least want to change current year provisional award based on last year's income, and also to report a change of address, because we moved house on 1/5 (but all post is forwarded to my office with royal mail redirection from 30/04). the helpline woman said that
-- my file is locked and she can't do anything to it, including change anything even the address
-- there was a letter dated 28/4 out to me that informed me what to do and i need to call a number in the letter
-- she doesn't know what's in the letter or won't tell me
-- there is a department she won't name that deals with my file. generally she sounded tense.
Interestingly i rang to renew on the evening of the 28th and it was fine, and then i got a text about renewal on the 1/05.
Now. the problem is, I have not got any letters dated 28/4. And even with redirection I should already have it. In fact I have later dated letters from TCO (about that overpayment).
I assume I am being investigated for something terrible. I am not afraid -- I am 100% transparent and have all docs -- but I wish i could somehow FIND OUT what it is and when I need to send, to whom and by which date. Because i suspect they will stop my payments (let alone renewal) unless I do something, and i dont' know what it is, and the helpline won't tell me. or take a new address.
what do i do?
I think maybe if one of you folks here that had been investigated, can give me a number for a dept you had to deal with? so then i can ring them and give my NIN and they will tell me at least something?
in your experience how much do I have to unravel the mystery until they stop my payments?!
Thanks

I wish I knew! I never actually received the letter!
I only know there was one because the helpline woman told me. But she'd say no more and certainly dropped no names. Or numbers. She said everything was in the letter I may never received (the prospect of me never receiving it did not faze her a bit -- she generally spoke to me as if she had been looking at a poster of me saying i was armed and dangerous).0 -
Yep probably child care investigation.
but what's there to investigate? My daughter is 9 and attends and after school care program at a state school, administered and billed for by the same school. the amount is like 51 quid a week
I rather am inclined to think this is that new "genuine self-employment" thing I read about they are supposed to apply from this year. The date of the mythical letter seems to be the date i called in to renew -- the date i told them my income. And it would then be decoded as having dropped below 30 hours at minimum wage -- when considered over the whole year (I have only ever claimed tax credits for the first time in my life from August last year), but not when considered from August.
So I am inclined to suspect it's the thing where they are trying to figure out why i made so little money in so many hours. maybe i am wrong. wouldn't be surprised this is them actually wanting to find out that the breakfast and afterschool club at hour local school costs 50 quid a week.
but like i said, i wish i KNEW what it was or whom to ask.
I know i can kiss renewal goodbye for 3-4 months now. I mentally accepted that. But I dont want to lose weekly payments.0 -

Defiantly one or the other.
I have also dropped below the NMW for the 30 hours I work so like you am expecting a compliance check on self employment.
I'm still inclined to think yours is child care even though it's a small amount they do seem rather keen on getting stuck in to child care at renewal.
In past years they seem to be interested in the child care at renewal and once they have done that they move on to the self employed from around October but that could well change this year.
No way to know until you get the letter I'm afraid.0 -
maybe you are right. i assumed the letter has gotten lost, but georgiasdragons posted she only got a letter today dated 20th of april, so go figure...
I have a silly question about childcare. My afterschool club bill for spring semester is still unpaid. I mean it is billed by the school and you actually pay the local council as the schooll doesnt have its own account. But the care is provided on credit and the payment is only due in March for the whole term and I havent made it (had no money). I have plenty of invoices, bills, reminders and then some, though. I wonder if they want proof that I PAID it, or what the COSTS are. what happens when there are outstanding childcare bills?0 -
My fees average out at 52 a week and I'm still being investigated for second time.
I do have arrears only 71.50 from last month which I'll pay before i send my statement0 -
thanks georgiasdragons
can you please give me the number of those concentrix folks then?0
