changing to lighter colour of paint!

hi - some decorating advise please.

our hallway and landing has old painted walls (probably 10 yrs old). it is slightly textured wallpaper or lining paper painted with light lavender which has faded quite a bit. Mrs wants to change it to almond white colour to match otehr house area.

question is, is it better to put a white coat first and then 1 or 2 coats of new almond white colour or shall i just start with almond white with uncertainty if i will need 3 coats or not....

If its already a light colour and faded, I'm not sure how painting it white first would help, but why don't you try a small patch first and see how it comes out before spending ages undercoating the whole lot?

I assume you want to keep the textured look? Can you not strip the walls completely and re-line them?

Thanks. textured look is not ideal but it doesnt bother so much as to ripping the while thing off and re-lining it. not done it before so unsure of time & effort so it will do for now. thanks for suggestion though.

I would slap on a few coats of cheap white paint then finish it off with the colour of your choice, which is likely more expensive than the white

The orange diy shed sells a white cover paint which is a bit like painting with treacle but it covered a dark brown for us to change it to a light green
