Canadian prime ministers can pick experts to be cabinet ministers, even if they're not MPs. A retired admiral might be the minister of defence or a professor of agricultural economics the minister of agriculture. We had ex history lecturer Gordon brown as chancellor who for some reason was talked about as if he was some kind of financial genius.

What ever happened to Gordon "I saved the world" Brown.

I'd imagine he's some kind of emperor now? Head of the IMF maybe?

The man single handedly abolished boom and bust don't you know.

Westminster usually has about two thirds law graduates, including m thatcher and t Blair.

M Thatcher wasn't a law graduate. She studied science at Oxford.

How do we know that things wouldn't have been much worse if he hadn't been there at that time? Just imagine if it had been someone like Miliband!

and then qualified as a barrister in 1953, the same year as the twins were born.

Minsters are rarely if ever chosen to head a department which is based on their own expertise. Not a ground-breaking idiotic idea as far as I can see.

    Oh right. Sorry - I didn't know that.:o

But then, we are SPECIAL over here !!

Not so much a gravy train as snouts in the trough!!. This is one of the reasons why people are so disconnected and disillusioned with politics in this country. At a time of austerity when the people are facing cuts to their public services we see money being used to pay the fat salaries of these political advisers who are neither elected or would appear to be accountable for their actions.

As for snouts in the trough I would like to say sorry for any pigs I have offended for the comparison I made.

    Actually you're both right :T

She wasn't a law graduate but she did a law conversion course (it's a graduate diploma course not a degree course) and studied for the bar. ;)
