I'm assuming you're very bored AdrianC. And FYI no handbook with car, driving instructor went through it once, briefly and not comprehensively.0

I bought a car in October...
I got my car serviced straight after I bought it (50 point inspection) and they didn't alert me to anything at the time.
Yesterday I took car for MOT and it failed with the mechanic saying it'll cost pretty much what I paid for the car to repair it (cost of repairs £762, car price £895).
I'm unsure what to do....
I don't know whether the mechanical faults bought up in MOT were there when bought and the men who serviced it at the time didn't do a thorough enough check to notice, or that I have somehow caused all that damage in 7 months.
And if the former, is there any way I can get partial refund/compensation from the garage?
They didn't give me any paperwork at the time apart from the sale doc,....
Turn it in!
Your opening post asked for help/advice, you had your options in #2....some posts where helpful about the prices etc.
To be honest, you did the right thing when you had it serviced straight after you bought it.....if it was sold in a poor state, blown blubs or worn tyres, they would of advised you and replaced them.
You didnt cause damage while driving it, you caused wear, something that every car new or old does.
The only thing you will do differently now is carry out weekly/monthly checks, not wait for the annual MOT check.....buying a sub £1000 car from a dealer with no paperwork to speak of isn't that bad with the MOT failures listed so you have done well for it to last this long, although with a slipping clutch I would probably out it and get something else now.
I would be buying from a private seller at this price level though, as a motor trader will sell a £500 car for £1000.
Good lucks with your next car or if you decide to get this one repaired."Dream World" by The B Sharps....describes a lot of the posts in the Loans and Mortgage sections !!!0 -
Google/YouTube has probably saved me a fair amount of money on fixing things from motor related to fixing my dishwasher and numerous other things.
Latest one was changing the brake fluid on my scooter, God knows how much that would have cost through a garage.0
