I think that you are all blowing this out of proportion
The OP just discovered that she is to receive a surprise payment from a long forgotten employment with civil service (together with a welcome monthly pension payment) - she has not stated that she is otherwise broke - just wanted some advice on what to spend the windfall on - yes OH has health issues but it is down to her whether she spends the whole lot on one holiday or not .....

Go and enjoy it. Time with your family is much more precious than money.

Where was the OP asking for advice about how to spend her money? Wasn't she trying to clarify if it was tax free or not? And if she would get the lump sum plus the pension? I think people have been rather rude about how she wants to spend her money.

It's fine, I can understand a lot of people will disagree and think the sensible thing would be to keep the money for future emergencies. and it's been interesting reading the comments about Disney
it’s a long long time since I was last at Disney – my daughter was 14 then and she was 40 this year so I guess it’s changed a bit! The grandkids are 2 Frozen obsessed little girls so I don’t think there’s much doubt that they will like Disney. And I agree with all the comments about it being overpriced. I can’t believe we are seriously considering staying in one of the Disney hotels and my daughter and I will have to share a bed  and the girls will have to share the other one. Do they not have bunk beds in the States then?? Staying off site in a villa is looking a lot more appealing – to me anyway.
Thanks again for the help and advice
