zero info for ppi claim

hello.
a friend recently successfully claimed for ppi and asked if i've ever had any.
now the only thing that could have been were 2 loans from the yorkshire bank 1996-2001 ish, and a mortgage with C&G 2001-2005
i'm very unsure of the years, or if ppi was included never mind loan details,
though i do vaguely recall once trying to claim and been refused as i had been going through quite a few temp jobs at the time.
now i have absolutely no paperwork of anything and i only know when the mortgage payments were ended as i can see the last sold price on a website.
is it worth the fee and price of a stamp?

What fee are you talking about?
If you have no paperwork all you can do is try a £10 DSAR to the bank with as much info as you can remember from the time (names including maiden name, old address etc) - if they have no records your complaint would be a none-starter - that is of course before you construct a complaint reason (preferably with verifiable info) - if you only had temp jobs that might make the PPI unsuitable but what did you put on your mortgage application if you were only bringing in an unreliable source of income?Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

C&G only retailed monthly premium MPPI (not single premium) and it was taken by monthly direct debit from your current account (and not built into the mortgage). That is the way it should be set up.is it worth the fee and price of a stamp?
You haven't said what your complaint reasons are and you don't even know if you had it. Perhaps you ought to find that out first.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). the £10 fee, but its 15/20 years ago.
i can't give exact dates, unsure of the years too, 96/97 though i'm 99% sure ppi was on it as i recall trying to claim once but denied because i'd not been employed long enough, i can only guess the year on the 1st as i took out a loan to buy a car to get a job, when i took out a mortgage in 2001 i'd got a "stable"ish job by then.
just curious as a mate with a similar situation with no paperwork claimed a few £'s but not 15/20 years ago, 7/10 years in his case0 -

mortgage was sorted via yorkshire bank, remember around the same time i took out a private pension, they did all the maths of what i could afford, 3 months later i noticed they'd not added the poll tax on my outgoings, had to cancel it as i couldn't afford it,
that cost me a couple of quid0 -

Yorkshire bank had no commercial relationship with C&G (which was owned by Lloyds TSB at the time). Are you sure you did it via Yorkshire?
If you did, then you can forget asking C&G about PPI as a third party would rarely use an in-house insurance product.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). i'm sure it was set up by an advisor there, maybe wrong, my memory is not what it used to be0 -
heads up
i found an old equifax credit rating document from 2005 and it listed my recent loans at the time, i sent off a speculative letter to them, with which had the exact dates/amounts, no account number details though.
reply today off one saying a £1750 cheque is on its way :-)0 -
