Tax certificate

Does anyone know which banks and building societies will automatically send a tax certificate?
I have already received a couple, but as far as I recall, not all banks will let you download it online. Some will let you order it online, others you need to request it eg by secure message or by phone.

I have received / downloaded the interest/tax information from Coventry BS and Nationwide so far.
What about the banks - Lloyds, TSB, Santander, Halifax etc?

I found a summary of interest from Lloyds in my online messages yesterday.

ETA, and the same information by post the following morning.

  • I recently had to ring Lloyds for my tax statement. I was told that you have to request them, but if you close an account they are sent out automatically. If you have an online Santander account, log in and under the heading 'Contact Us' on the left of the screen, click 'VIew Messages' and it should be listed under 'Account Summary.
Don't know about the other banks you mentioned.

I haven't looked for a tax statement from Lloyds for this year yet, but don't have many accounts with them. When doing my tax return last year I couldn't find the annual statement so just did a search on the account to get the interest amounts. You can search 90 days at a time so within a few minutes you have your annual numbers with no phonecalls or waiting for the postman.

It'll probably be as simple as that for most other banks that don't have a specific link to click and get a voucher.

TSB you can request it via your online account. Santander have had 'technical issues' due some change and can't provide them until later this month.

*edit* Actually thinking about it I think I had to phone up and ask TSB. It was Nationwide where you can do it online.

Neither Lloyds nor NatWest send them out automatically. The easiest way to get one is to go to a branch and ask. They will print one off while you wait.

I record all my interest receipts as they register on each of my accounts in MS Money. So not only do I know at any one point in time how much money I have in my accounts, but I can also run off a report showing my taxable income for the relevant period whenever I like. I have never needed to provide HMRC with tax certificates, presumably because the summary figure I declared in my annual tax returns tallied with the figures they have from the banks.

This is, of course, of little help to anyone who has not recorded their interest receipts for the past. But it is a suggestion for going forward - write down what you receive as you receive it. A personal finance software package is probably best as it also offers other benefits, but a spreadsheet or even just pen and paper will do.

I had a new e-document from Santander this morning, listing all my accounts with the interest for 2014-15 on one page.

The easiest way to get a Natwest certificate is to print it out in online banking

It's in the section called "statements"

Natwest also printed the necessary information on all of my April statements

I have now got them all except TSB.
I received an online message which led to tax information on one TSB savings account, but nothing on my Classic Plus or TSB vantage accounts.
I can't find anywhere on the website to request the information, so I will have to ring up, I guess.
