Boiler & Central Heating installation (Midlands)

I have asked a few installers to quote me on installing central heating within my 3 bed semi detached property. The property currently has no central heating, boiler or pipework so it will be full installation job.

I have asked for a combi-boiler, and have tried to have the radiators 'back-to-back' as much as possible to minimise the amount of pipework needed (and therefore reduce costs).

Worcester Bosch Greenstar 28 I Junior
Horizontal flue
Salus magnetic filter
600 x 1000 DP+ radiator for hall
600 x 1000 DC radiator for lounge
600 x 1000 DC radiator for kitchen
600 x 1000 DP+ radiator for bedroom 1 (double)
600 x 1000 DP+ radiator for bedroom 2 (double)
600 x 500 SC radiator for bedroom 3 (tiny box-room)
700 x 400 towel radiator for bathroom
plus all valves and pipework needed to complete the job also inhibitor added along with a hot flush of system

I have been quoted £2580 - what do people think of this initial quote?

Can anyone provide any advice? Is there anything I should ask for in regards to the radiators (type, brand etc..)

P.S If there any installers in the W.Midlands who'd like to quote me drop me a PM at anytime

    Wow that's cheap IMO.
I'm surmising that includes controls too?
Is that also copper piping or plastic?
I'd be a little wary of that quote as it sounds too good to be true.
What company is that quote from?
    Is that Ex Vat?

It is a 'one-man' band but he does appear to have top reviews on ratedpeople.com.

I'm not sure about that piping - I'm pretty sure he said copper but cannot be 100% on this - I presume copper is the better option?

The quote doesn't state VAT anywhere so i'll need to confirm this price with him directly - it does look pretty cheap (not sure if thats a good thing or a bad thing)
  • Well theres a lot of work involved in that quote. If he's got good reviews and he's doing it for that cheap its a good price. You need a chemical cleaner to be added before the hot flush to clear any flux as this damages rubber O rings.
How far from the gas meter is the boiler in a straight line form the boilers position?

There isn't a boiler in place at the moment - but we intend to have it placed in the bathroom (hidden away) this will be upstairs above the gas meter which is in the 'understairs' closet. It isn't in a straight line above gas meter although it is isn't too far off in all honesty.

My intention is to use a smart-device like the Hive or the Nest for controlling the temperature.
  • Well I would advise you to ask for a reference job or jobs to check his work out.
If he's doing it for that price its cheap.
