Hello
I am trying not to have a complete meltdown, I am after some advice please. I am visually impaired have various other health issues and currently work full time.My place of work is 2.3 miles away and I go to work and come home according to my husbands shifts. I currently get Access to work transport help for those days I can't get home. I have 4 journeys a week and pay 75p towards it and ATW pay 5.25.
My work is moving in spring next year, to a city 12 miles away (swansea) I am trying to be organised, and have had two quotes so far from taxi firms. Each quote is for £50 a day. It will be just under £12000 a year for transport! There is no other way for me to get there, at all. Does anyone have any experience with ATW transport and if they will actually pay that?
I was advised to contact S's, regarding direct payments, I have done this and am as of today waiting for an assessment.
I have a good job and earn just over 18k I have been told that I will have to contribute towards it, but does anybody have any idea what amount? There is no way on earth I will get another job like this, with its flexi time and support and wages. I need to make this work, but still need to be able to afford to live etc.
Has anybody please got any advice. Thank you in advance.
Kind regards
Vapegirl.

When they calculated my costs I had to pay the equivalent of what it costs to travel to and from work on public transport. They also take into account that I have a Disabled persons bus/travel pass which means all public transport is free in the Greater Manchester transport area after 9:30 am.

My costs are £60 a day for 12 miles and I contribute £2.10 a day.

Yes they'll probably pay that, my OH calculated his bus fare and pays that, then they'll usually accept the cheapest of three quotes.

Be aware though, when they get behind they couldn't care less how much you're paying in advance. We have a 5 week float and have got down to the wire several times.

They also prefer to pay monthly but will take weekly receipts. We can't afford a two month float so claim weekly.

Same taxi prices here. The cheaper taxi companies hate doing contract work so we couldn't have the option of the company billing them direct.
  • Thank you for your replies. It's incredibly difficult to find a taxi willing to do contract work. My current one is great and atw pay him monthly so I haven't got to spend so much.
    Thanks.
