Halifax PPI

Evening all,

Just after a bit of advice regarding the wife's PPI claim. Back in 2013 she put a claim in for mis-sold PPI which was rejected in Sep 2013. My wife took the answer on the chin and left it at that.

Now fast forward to 1st May 15 she receives a call at 8.45pm saying they have reopened the claim (albeit not at her request) as she may have been mis-sold PPI, so she answers all the questions and waits for an answer. She has heard off them tonight saying she wasn't mis-sold it, this has now got the wife suspicious that it was mis-sold and they are fobbing her off especially as they told her she couldn't appeal to the ombudsman. Now is it strange that they have reopened it and are they correct that she can't appeal??

Cheers

Some banks/societies have been re opening complaints. If they have rejected her complaint the first time, she was out of time now to go tot he Ombudsman about the original complaint so they could time bar if she did go to the ombudsman.

If it was finance from somewhere else, she may not have access to the ombudsman any depending on who sold it to her and when.

So, who sold it to her, what was it and when was it?

this has now got the wife suspicious that it was mis-sold and they are fobbing her off especially as they told her she couldn't appeal to the ombudsman.

Many banks were told to reopen and review old complaints that were rejected to make sure they were handled correctly. So, nothing unusual there.

As the decision is unchanged, there is no right to the FOS as you could have used that first time around if you disagreed.

Arghh, Halifax are doing my head in. They keep phoning my wife up trying to ask her about her PPI complaint even though they have stated they have sent a letter rejecting the complaint (letter hasn't been received though), any idea's what they are playing at as she lost her rag yesterday and told them not to bother contacting her again regarding it.

Are you sure it's Halifax and not some complaints company?

There's no need to speak to them they will make a decision anyway regarding it.
However, if she does speak to them, she may tell them something which could reult in her complaint being upheld.

It is possible for a case handler to make a decision, send a letter and close the case then have their work randomly checked by an internal quality team. If this check reveals that the decision is wrong, that something may have been missed or that some important question not asked the case handler can be instructed to make another call and do the case again. They are very strict about this. Not necessarily saying this is what has happened here but just a thought. Do you have much to lose by spending 20 minutes on the phone answering some questions?!
