Hi,

I've been out of work for over six months. In a few weeks I start a part-time job (I say it's part-time, but salary is 16k (gross) a year for what I'll work)...

Obviously I am going to have to wait one month before I get paid... Can anyone tell me if I'll still get paid my current benefits from the day I start work (currently in recipe of JSA/housing benefit) just I still need to buy food, pay rent, travel costs, work clothing etc etc...

You may be able to get a 4 week benefit run on, ask your job centre advisor

JSA will normally stop immediately when you start work. You will get a part payment for the period from your normal signing day to the end date of your claim.
The GOV.UK site isn't very helpful other than saying to speak to your advisor on JSA to see what may be available. This has to be a common situation so they are probably best placed to give an answer in your specific situation.

So I signed off today, and was told I would be entitled to benefits until the day before I start work. I think I'll continue to get housing benefit for the following month though.

Pretty chuffed at finally getting off the dole, so bought a new video game to celebrate :)

Part time workers (those working less than 16 hrs per week) are entitled to JSA IB until they receive thir fist wage.

In your case on £16k you'd be well over the income threshold even if the hours worked were less than 16.
