Not a overall bad choice, make sure the oil is changed every 8000 and not the 12,000 they list in the service book as it gets very dirty around 10k.
12,000 was a bit optimistic to say the least and the oil is like black tar by 12.000
This is the cause of most issues with turbo failure as oil soot blocks the feed pipe, so a change every 8k removes that main issue.
Some do it every 6,000 so it gets done again at service and have clocked 150,000+ on that engine without issue.I do Contracts, all day every day.0 -
I can second that. Brilliant car was my Skoda 1.9 TDI PD. Same they don't make that engine anymore.
Possibly the best diesel engine VW have built, at least for balance of reliability and economy.
I've had ones that have done 165k, 195k and 250k. All were still running fine.Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0
