CCTV drain survey - Fixed price

Has anyone used a Drain Survey company in the London Area (I'm in Ealing W5) to examine the drains of their property using CCTV ? I see some firms online offering fixed price surveys from 99 to 220 pounds. I wondered if anyoen has any good or bad experiences ? Many of the online firms offering this, have a fancy website, but dont show a registered office address or a landline number which is a bit worrying.

The first question has to be why you feel that you need a CCTV survey? I say this because interpreting the results is a job for a skilled or professional person. You are unlikely to know a back falling pipe, or a sag, or a deflecting joint, or a hairline crack, or...you get the idea.

You are also unlikely to know a Supersleve pipe from an old clay pipe, nor know a Twinwall pipe from a pvcu pipe.

But if the results show an obvious such as a tree root in the drain this is almost an irrelevance. Then the skill is in what has to be done to correct this.

The average householder should think carefully about professional guidance if they believe a CCTV survey is required. Cowboys abound, and I pick my words with care - even the bright orange vans labelled Dyno Rod are not to be trusted.

Cannot help with London firms but the CCTV drain surveys I have commissioned came with a DVD and full written report identifying the nature and location of the defects. Costs about £200 down here in the sticks.

You do have to be careful about extras the firms try to get you to agree to, jet washing, descaling etc. these can double or treble the "fixed price" originally quoted and are usually not needed.

I second this and would add that the cowboy operators will turn up psi to such levels that breaking of plastic drainage is a possibility. Likewise if a drain is old, worn, but reasonably intact it may not be after it has been jet washed or descaled.
