It's a bit like telling the DWP that you are in agony with them, and asking the DWP to disprove what you are saying - they can't! So those two conditions are open to widespread abuse depending on how honest the claimant is.
But that argument could be levelled at almost any medical condition from a headache to HIV.
I'm not saying you are wrong, but just that one should be careful dismissing a condition just because it *could* fit those criteria.0 -
do people really think that others are glad to be disabled because they can receive less than they could earn if they worked full time?
I wouldn't say that they were receiving less than they could whilst working. Given that the government accept that up to £500 a week is reasonable for a non disabled benefit claimant to receive, someone on NMW would have to be working 75+ hours a week to earn £500!
Being disabled/sick can see that £500 a week rise considerably.0 -

Yes they could. I was only pointing out that there are some common medical conditions that whilst there is a diagnosis, the truth of how they affect someone (when claiming ESA & PIP) can never be disproved by the DWP. Hence why it is acceptable for the DWP to treat those claims as suspicious and refuse them. The onus then falls on the claimant to prove the extent of the claimed symptoms when they appeal.
However given the number of claimants being awarded ESA & PIP for the two conditions that I first mentioned it will never come out IF some level of exaggeration is involved.
To be honest the DWP are going down the right road and demanding evidence to back up the claimed symptoms and affects.0 -
[the cap of £500 is for a family and not an individual.
you really need to focus on the facts before you criticise.
the cap is £350 for any single adult ( unless disabled)
to be honest. i'd be incredibly surprised if anyone received that amount outside of london./B]0 -

So that's is why you personally lost a "massive" amount of money and your mobility car, shame Andy, you will forgive me if I have no sympathy for you in particular. Its not that we have more patience as we grow older, its just that we're too tired to care about all the pointless drama

Why is it whenever anyone posts something suggesting that perhaps the system might be too generous they are instantly flooded with posts scolding them for talking on this board about benefits policy and told to shuffle off to discussion time.
When, on the other hand ....
Just wondering.0 -
Perhaps because it's a forum for claimants and appellants seeking advice. Please be polite to OPs and remember this is a site for Claimants and Appellants to seek redress against their bank, ex-boss or retailer. If they wanted morality or the view of the IoD or Bank they'd ask them.0

i agree with roger black.
being in the support group really isn't an indicator of how sick or disabled an individual is ... it merely means that you tick the right box.
i also agree that people should be prepared to hump through the necessary hoops to claim specific benefits.
i am offended by the term 'free money' as it applies to very few claimants.

You may well be offended, I'm offended that the tax that I pay isn't given to the right people instead of those that have spent a lifetime in educating themselves on how to make successful benefit claims.0
