New Kitchen

Hi,

Not sure if this is the correct place to post so please feel free to move.

We're in the process of getting the bathroom and kitchen done. Just thought I'd ask here if there were any recommendations (or ones to avoid) in terms of the both especially regarding kitchen units/fitters etc. I have heard differing stories that some big names (B&Q, Magnet etc) can be hit and miss.

Appreciate your comments.

Fitted a Wickes kitchen myself. More than happy with the kitchen and the advice Wickes provided.

The quality of the fitter is individual. It does not matter which company he works for or whether he's an indie.

Places like B&Q/Wicks regularly have sales, and good prices, but watch out for their fitting costs. Personally I bought my kitchen in a B&Q sale but then had a local independant joiner/carpenter do the fitting.

Granted there was minimal plumbing/electrics involved which I did myself, but I'd have just got my joiner to recommend someone if needed.

We had a B&Q kitchen fitted last year, when they were offering 0% interest for 4 years. We're happy on the whole. The installation is OK, although some of the tiling is a bit ropey and some of the units are not as closely fitted as we would have liked. We got them to refit the plinths, which they did extremely reluctantly, because the vinyl fitters we employed said that they just fell off and hadn't been cut correctly. It also took them ages to remove the rubbish from our patio (their policy is to save money on skip hire by piling all the stuff up and collecting it at the end, but we had to chase them for weeks to collect everything). But they've got a comprehensive range of kitchens on offer and the fitter came up with some good solutions regarding issues that cropped up with wiring and the cooker hood flue. So I'd give a reserved recommendation.
