Have you thought about asking for an adult social care assessment for your mum... social services might be able to provide equipment (grab rails/bath seat/stools/chair raisers etc) or even a carer to help her.

That might ease the load for you and stop your mums care needs affecting your health as well?

Can you please tell us exactly what benefits you and your mum are getting?

You are on ESA - income based or contribution based? Do you receive DLA/PIP?

What benefits is your mum on? DLA ( what rates of care and mobility?)

    Anything else? ESA? etc

It is important to know as Carer's Allowance can affect some benefits.

This has been a scandal for years couples get themselves on DLA and ESA then claim carers for each other it is the perfect maximising you can get.

if a couple are claiming income related benefits, they would be WORSE off by claiming carers allowance.
so how does that sit with you?

And the DWP might well want to investigate how someone is that ill is able to care for 35 hours + a week?

    So helpful.

Thanks to everyone else for their advice. I have made an appointment with social services to see if there is anything they can do, and MIND to discuss benefits etc.
