If you spread it lightly over the soil, it will do more good than harm. Ideally, do it before light rain.
There are plenty of plants that prefer it, even if they aren't acid-lovers. It's good for clematis, quite good for roses, and lawns do fine with it, again spread lightly.0 -

....though it usually applies to partners in love rather than garden plants.
(Mind you, swinging the other way: e.g. putting lime-heavy fertilizer, like mushroom compost, on lime haters, is not recommended.)0 -
