Bank Account Fees

Hello
I have seen these claims from firms that they can claim back your monthly account fee for you. The fee that is for holiday or mobile phone insurance and other things like that on the Halifax Ultimate reward current account. I just wondered if this is possible. The onlyreason I was moved over from my normal current account was that they told me they was going to start charging for overdrafts. And yet I had always had a £500 overdraft on my account where provided I did not go over £200 it was free. Then they brought in charges which where yes a lot clearer but a lot more price wise that is. And at the same time told me if I still wanted to keep my free overdraft then I would need to move to the new account to keep these benifits. (benifits that I had been getting for free) At this stage I will admit I am unable to work due to a heart attack followed by triple heart bypass that did not go as planned and other problems with my legs, knees and back has has left me like I am) So every pound is quite inportant to us. Hence I am always playing catch up and running on a overdraft of roughly £160-£180 per month. Which once I receive payment I pay off and its back to zero. But to avoid being stung by the new fees I had to take the new account and its monthly cost, So for something I was actually getting for free I now have to pay £15 per month for the privilege yes there are other privileges with the account but as we can just live on what we get these other privileges are a no brainier. There is no way we could ever afford a holiday (the last one we had was 6 years ago and was a presant for my 50th birthday and was a all inclusive so cost us nothing,) As for the phone insurance the phone I have can be bought for next to nothing the phone my daughter has would attract a extra payment on top of the insurance simply because the type of phone it is. However the amount of extra fee they impose is way over the top. As she herself could get it fixed for less than half of the imposed fee, So whats the use of that.or Never mind that just reading the do's and dont's leave your head in spin. And same goes for the others included They might be ok if you had lots and lots of money but we dont and like I said beforthe only reason we need to pay the £15 a month is to be able to have just under £200 on our overdraft. So thinking about it yes I would say I should be able to get it or some of it back. What do you think? Has anyone been through the process or?

As you seem to have missed it, there is an entire guide on the MSE site regarding claiming the fee - why haven't you cancelled the account already if you're in hardship? Halifax will often rollover on these accounts if you haven't used them - so ring up and cancel the account and ask for a free one with an OD and put in a complaint about the packaged fees

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.
