    Debt-free and Proud!
Hi S&S, sorry to hear about your job, I'm sure you'll be able to work something out. Keep looking at that budget and seeing where you can cut back.
I often find it helpful to do a massive meal plan at the start of the week, shop to that list and then if I have to top up say with bread, then I head to the shop with a pound coin in my pocket. No handbag. Just a pound. That way I get just the bread, rather than a million other things that catch my eye!

Start looking round for jobs now to see what's out there and to formulate a plan for yourself. I'm sure it'll all work out...and keep posting...your story will undoubtedly help others in the same situation. x
PAYDBX 2016 #55 100% paid! :j Officially bad debt free...don't count my mortgage.
Now to start saving...it's a whole new world!!
  • Morning all! :j

Starting the day off on a positive note - I've booked a Mystery Shopping job for Saturday, which combines something we pay out for anyway every week, with getting paid to buy it!
Saving of approximately £5 for this week, and being paid £2.50, for a 5 minute walk from my house :T every little helps :D

Feeling very positive, and determined to have a NSD today - had a very spendy last couple of days, triggered by stress, but I am determined not to let it to do that in future. Transferred the odd amounts of mine and OH bank balances into our online saver's (only a couple of quid in each for now...), with the intention of it being saved for Xmas (mine) and stag do coming up in two months (my OH), so trying to stay prepared! :)

Sat in complete peace and quiet, as got up and had a little chat with my OH before he went to work and the kiddies are still asleep (rare!), hopefully recovering from the dreaded sickness bug that they've been struck down with AGAIN - their attendance due to illness is shocking and somewhat expecting a fine off the council

Have a lovely day everyone, stay positive and good luck on the money saving front :beer:

  • Whilst I'm on here actually, I had a good think last night about the viability of trying to use mystery shopping/setting up a little upcycling business from home, as a legitimate means of income....What do you all think....??
It's become obvious through the complete lack of childcare (except OH who doesn't get home until 7.30-8.30pm each night) that trying to get a job is going to be impossible - My solution is trying to turn my hand at upcycling (have a go first of course, and see how I go on from there), and completing as many mystery shopping jobs as possible....has anybody tried something similar..? I'd love to know what everyone thinks, as my mindset is that my children will only be children for the next 10 years max, and I'd like to be here for them from school, and get to be there for them growing up, but obviously need an income...thoughts??

  • Update: Just put two receipts onto various cash back apps for the "Try me free" ranges (=getting paid to try the product ) and put my receipts aside to send off for the "Try me free" promotion.

About to put a load of washing on line, utilising FREE sunshine = no need to put tumble dryer on :T

Also, turning the tele off and unplugging at switch, and making the nearly-better bairns play with the drawers and drawers full of lego we have = FREE entertainment for them, peace and quiet for me!lol

  • Another little update (going to truly start doing people's heads in on this board..:o lol), we've been having a weirrd, loud, rumbling sound coming from our Condensor dryer (still under warranty), so just e-mailed customer services asking them to contact me, so they can repair it.
Hopefully I can get it fixed FREE OF CHARGE, so make a saving on what I would've had to pay out in the future.....if that makes sense :rotfl:

Oh, and it started raining shortly after I typed the immortal words "sunshine" (tempting fate!), so the loud, rumbly dryer is now rumbling away

Hope everyone's having a happy, healthy, prosperous and financially healthy day :T

Hi S&S, really sorry to hear about your job, that sucks :(

However, its god to stay positive. I like your idea of up cycling, but look into who else is doing the same in your area, unless you are thinking about selling on places like eBay?

Could you while away the hours ironing? You could set up an ironing business which could be done from home.
