Time from accepted offer to exchange

Hi
We are first time buyers in the process of purchasing a flat.
From all the research we have done the time between having an offer accepted and exchange of contracts is between 2-6 weeks. We are now sitting on 9 weeks! (There is no onward chain as well as the flat has been standing empty for months now). Our mortgage was approved hassle free within the first couple of weeks. We have been pushing our solicitors and they seem to be blaming the seller solicitors. Any advise on anything else we can do?

We offered on 12th March and exchanged today so two months. No chain either side. Our mortgage held things up a bit.
  • First time Buyers, no chain and we're currently on 13 weeks and counting :(

7 weeks for us on a no chain, cash purchase! Should have been 4 max but my solicitor lost us about a week getting documents out and the vendor's solicitor lost us 2 (to the fury of the vendor).

Our buyers had their offer accepted to buy our house on 17th April and we are expecting them to exchange this week - our solicitor told us yesterday everything is ready to go on both sides. So 4 weeks assuming it does go ahead.....

Pushing your solicitors wont be very efficient. You should push the EA (or seller).

Find out from your solicitor exactly what they are waiting for from the seller's solicitor - and phone the EA (or seller) and ask them to chase it.

Just as an example, if your solicitor says it's info that the seller's solicitor has requested from the flat's managing agents.

Then phone the EA (or seller) to say that the seller needs to chase their managing agent to provide the info, and/or chase their solicitor to send it. The EA will then phone the seller and push things along.

When I purchased my flat I was FTB, offered accepted in April, didn't complete until August!
