Problems adding travel plans on Halifax Clarity Card

Options
I am an additional card holder on my husbands Halifax Clarity Card. We recently first travelled abroad together and my husband entered the travel details online. He sent me a screen shot of the Clarity card help and support box telling me that additional card holders can not add travel plans online but gave the phone number which additional cardholders could could inform travel plans on. Today ( my husband is away with no mobile reception) I rang the number to inform them of a trip I will be taking in the near future without my husband. I was told that additional card holders are unable to register travel plans - it can only be done by the PRIMARY card holder. Informed them of screen shot and details stated there and escalated problem to a manager. He said sorry that information incorrect and additional card holders unable to advise of travel plans.
I stated that would never have obtained the card if I had known this. I basically got this card as is so useful to travel with and all my other credit cards allow either or primary or additional cardholder to inform of travel plans.
Putting this on the forum because feel that the Halifax website is obviously incorrect and do not want any other additional cardholders to think they can inform Halifax of upcoming trips as stated in the instructions. I feel this is a HUGE HUGE negative mark against Clarity card and should be highlighted on the main section on MSE about Clarity to ward people.

If it helps - i've never informed them of travel plans and used the card with no problems on more than 10 trips abroad :)

    Why?
Informing them of your travel plans is completely optional.
You can use your card anywhere is the world without informing them.

I only inform them to reduce the chances of my card being stop and hence reduce inconvenience.

BTW - Why don't you jsut get yourself a Clarity card.
If you travel alone then wouldn't it be better to have your own account?

Glad I noticed this thread, I didn't realise Halifax had added a facility for online travel notification. I have always rung them which, of course, is what you can easily do.

Cats2012 - thanks think that is the way I'll go. Just wanted them to know I was away to reduce chance of probs with card being declined.

Lisyloo - I have plethora of credit cards so as husband had already got Clarity decided that an additional one was the quickest, easiest way to go.

Biggles - I was trying to inform them by phone but not allowed to as additional card holder only the primary card holder can alert them of travel plans.

I've never bothered to tell them. Have used Clarity in Germany, France and the Czech Republic multiple times in the last 2 or 3 weeks, including taking out large amounts of cash from ATMs.

    No issues.

Unless your going to a country like the U.S. Where most transactions are still swipe and sign, there's not much point in telling them.

OP why do you not consider applying for your own card?

To be fair to Halifax, all banks would probably have the same policy for additional cardholders as the credit agreement is between them and the primary cardholder.

But I agree the wording of the help topic is poor. It probably ought to say that the primary cardholder can call them to register travel plans of additional cardholders.

Why should we, the customers, be bothered with this nonsense about letting card providers know of our travel plans? I never do, and I've no intention of ever doing so in the future. They will only ever block my card once! However, I do have the luxury of numerous (10 to be precise) credit cards.

If anyone is really worried about this, it might help if you use it at the airport before departure. I'm sure their incredibly sophisticated "fraud" detection systems will understand from such usage that you may be travelling abroad :(

Failing that, for secondary card users, why not just let the primary card user file the travel plans, even if he's not the one actually travelling?

    It's not exactly a hardship.
