Setting up let from a distance, how to protect myself?

I have an internship over the summer, so I'm trying to arrange some accomodation for the 12 weeks. Aside from the fact that I'm finding it difficult to find places to start with; I'm quite worried that I could get taken for a ride.
Aside from using an agency, what can I do to help make sure I'm taking to who they say etc. without having or make repeated £60 trips there and back.

Arguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon: no matter how good you are at chess, its just going to knock over the pieces and strut around like its victorious.

Whenever I've had to move to a different city for work I usually spend 1 or 2 weeks in a B&B or hotel whilst I find somewhere more permanent to live.

As you only need accommodation for 12 weeks have you looked into renting from a university? Some universities let non-students rent halls of residence during the summer.

The university could offer me all but the final week, so it's on the cards, but not ideal.

Where do you need to find accommodation? You may get some responses from local people if you let us know.
  • Try Airbnb?

I have a friend who lets out his spare room for weekends, weeks, and even 3 months at a time. He quite likes the social side as well, inviting his guests to come out if we are going local.

I would check the T&C, but I believe there are some checks and guarantees through the company.

Try Airbnb, if only to cover the last week.
