MSE News: 'I'm almost £900 in credit with Extra Energy but it's unable to send bill'

  • An utterly dreadful load of plonkers!
I left in September 2015 after changing to a deal with Eon, organised by the Cheap Energy Club.
I received no final bill, so I bombarded them with web contacts, emails and finally a postal letter.
Eventually I received a final bill showing a modest credit of around £43 due to me. That e-bill promised a refund on or around the 27th. November 2015. Needless to say it has not arrived!
Since then I have emailed numerous times, filled in a web contact and even phoned their "helpline" twice.(Each time I phoned I was promised a call back ! Ha, Ha, unsurprisingly, none was received.)
I have now sent a. postal letter detailing my complaint and giving formal notice that I intend taking my complaint to the Ombudsman Service, (As advised by OFGEM).
They are a total waste of oxygen.
    Avoid at all costs.
  • I have been having a nightmare of a time with Extra Energy. No bill or meter reading for 12 months, which meant I had to put £900 on my credit card to cover it just a couple of days before Christmas. I was offered compensation of a measly £30. the offer was then withdrawn the next day when I informed them I would be taking the matter to the Energy Ombudsman. The worst energy supplier ever.

Can you not read the meter yourself and work out roughly what the position is ?

You do appear to be on a mission about this don't you?

I would say I have looked carefully at this company, not least because they are offering the cheapest option for my electricity at present - if it stays this way, I will be looking to switch to them in a few months when my existing deal with another supplier expires.

Interestingly extra energy appear to be the new Spark, with many new MSE'ers signing up just to say avoid.

Last year, based on just a few responses, Extra Energy had about a 70-80% positive rating - now due to all the new sign ups, they sudddenl;y have an MSE rating of minus 70-80%

I guess their low prices are really scaring some of the extablished suppliers.

Anyway, I have reviewed the feedback and where anything constructive has been mentioned, this tends to fall into 2 camps.

    1. The age old one of the supplier changing the monthly DD amount. Well there is an MSE article that addresses that for those affected.

    2. Not receiving a monthly bill, e.g. for the last 3 months as Newbie Roscoe99 posted earlier today.

    Well according to Extra Energy

How often will I get a bill?
Customers paying by Direct Debit will receive a statement from us every six months...

  • I was with Extra Energy on a 12month fix, went in on £75 a month, they called after 6 months for a meter reading and imformed it would go up to £82 i never sent in meter readings or received a bill (why would you want a bill?) after 11months they said fix was ending soon so i cancel D/D and my new supplier EON fowarded my end reading to them. I rec. a bill called my first bill to say thanks for being their customer and that they owed me £12.89 and it would be in my bank in 4 working days, sure enough in 4 days time the £12.89 was in my bank.
In my experiance one of the better energy suppliers.

omg 6 months, do other providers not give monthly statements?
    Mortgage (Nov 15): £79,950 | Mortgage (May 19): £71,754 | Mortgage (Sep 22): £0
    Cashback sites: £900 | £30k in 2016: £30,300 (101%)
  • I too have been with Extraenergy as a duelfuel customer for nearly 18 months and have had no bill despite regular meter reading submissions and long telephone calls with customer service. I have now calculated my bills myself and would like to send them to EE by post for confirmation (not that I am expecting any acknowledgement). Is the Birmingham address actually their business premises or just the RO?

How do they get away with this isn't this supposed to be a tightly regulated industry? They are in breach of contract for not sending regular bills.

No, there are many suppliers that do not provide monthly satements.

However, most of those that don't usually provide a traditional quarterly statement.

My point is, the supplier states what they plan to do, yet people moan because they don't get then statements more frequently than they were promised.

You pays your money and takes your choice. EE are cheap ... and those cost savings mean something, somewhere must give.

If you want something more than EE offer, then take your business elsewhere ... and that alternative supplier will charge you handsomely for providing that extra service.
