Improving a bad score

Hello,

I currently have a credit score of 235 which seems very bad. Bit of a back story which seems similar to so many others - debt at a younger age and a few missed payments. I’ve been in the green since 2010 but I do have some credit cards which are maxed out. Things highlighted on my credit report include the amount of credit searches and the fact I’ve used all available credit, £11,000. I’ll soon be in a position (next month) where I can clear all debt and I can instantly stop the credit searches, they’ve most recently been linked to a business bank account and ISA.

Has anyone been in a similar situation and how long has it taken for the score to improve? I’m under no illusion that it won't suddenly jump but if I remained debt free for 6 or 12 months, what sort of number would I be looking at?

Thanks,

  • There is no such thing as a "score". Experian/Equifax/Callcredit don't lend money, they only people that will see the score is you, and them. Certainly don't pay them £15 a month for the "score".

Focus on the information held - is it accurate? The only thing that will improve your attractiveness to any lenders is to clear your debts, maintain a clean record, and the passage of time.
