New Passport .... Applying online

Not really money saving but will help those who have left it too late to renew passports and have a holiday booked ...... rather than lose the holiday this may be an option :)

After hearing all the horror stories of last summer with passport renewals taking weeks upon weeks, my OH needed to update his passport, so last week applied on line (new BETA test site) paid online there and then, sent the information required, signed application form and new photos etc by special delivery post last Wednesday. Received an email today (6 days later, or 4 working days), saying passport is being printed, expect delivery in next few days!

So not even been a week, since we sent it, its been processed and in print now. Thought i'd share with others how quick it can be.

I posted my (adult) daughter's renewal (paper form) at 4.30pm last Tuesday (5th). Text received to confirm received on Wednesday (6th), payment taken Thursday (7th) new passport arrived Saturday morning (9th), dated as issued on Friday (8th)

Excellent service from passport office! :T
Using the paper form doesn't seem to have delayed the process
Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the end

The passport service is one that when it works normally is very good but when it goes wrong it does it in equal style

Even the wife getting her first UK passport a few years ago was done very quickly if you were willing to travel for the interview
  • Yep, applied only live a few weeks ago for my wife and eldest son. It linked the two, really easy to do. Posted on the Saturday, received new passports the following Friday. All tracked online aswell. 5 days, amazing work

Thanks for responses guys, passport delivered yesterday! So posted last Wednesday, received the following Wednesday! Pleased with that!

Dont need passport til September, but after the horror stories of last year sorted early - having it renewed now also keeps the expiry date 10 years from the old ones expiry date, so new one valid until February 2026! We need the passport to be valid for 6 months after we come home from our Sept/Oct holidays (going long haul so need at least 6 months on our passport on our return).

My daughter's application hasn't been so quick. Like yourself, I applied now before booking anywhere (after last years problems)
2 & 1/2 weeks after using the online service though, paying online, and sending her old passport, signed declaration and photos, it's still showing as 'Awaiting information from the applicant' The only difference being that I didn't send it by special delivery. Hopefully it won't be much longer.

I recently did a paper based renewal. Posted it on the Monday and got the new passport on the Friday.
