Desperate to settle default but no one will acknowledge it!

Hi,
I've pulled up an Equifax credit report as i'm hoping to apply for a mortgage in the coming months. To my horror, a default that I obtained back in 2010 when I was a student is on there with Virgin Media. Everything else is green 0's and it's not stopped me obtaining credit ever.
I am desperate to settle this, it's only £54 and I want to clear it today! I've phoned VM up and given them the details I have, which granted are not much as I no longer have any paperwork for this contract with VM i've only got the information i've taken from my Equifax report. I was told to email creditfileamendments@virginmedia.co.uk but they've sent an automatic email stating it can take up to 28 days for a response. I don't want to leave it 28 days, I want to pay the damn thing off!
Does anyone have any other suggestions that I can try in order to pay this off?
Thanks!

There's nothing to say that is the reason why you can't obtain credit. You dont need the paperwork, they would search using your name and the address you lived at.
If you were to pay it off today it wont get changed on your credit file for maybe a few weeks, not sure how often they would update.
Does Experian and call credit/Noddle show the same ?0 -
I've managed to obtain credit elsewhere without issues, i've had loans with the advertised low rates so it's not causing me issues in obtaining unsecured credit.
I've ordered my £2 statutory report from Experian and my Noddle doesn't mention this default at all, doesn't even mention the address to be honest.0 -

Right but you want to pay the £54 off ?0 -
I had a unpaid on my my credit file showing as a "communications company" which eventually turned out to be virgin, I have never held an account with them but found out after lots and LOTS of phone calls that it was for a Telewest account that virgin took over and was a mistake as it was a bill dated after I had sold that property and moved. I emailed the credit file amendment address and no reply, emailed again and no reply and made another load of telephone calls to chase up why no-one was responding. about 2 months later it was removed from my account.
Only advice I can give is keep ringing them and ask to be put through to the complaints department and insist on staying on the phone until someone answers your query - they have absolutely terrible customer service, something which has put me off ever using them!0 -
I'd try calling them again and seeing if you get further with a different advisor or different department.
And if not then I'd also try sending your email again highlighting that the issue is urgent.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
I do want to repay the £54, I don't like the thought of this default being unpaid, it is the only blemish that is now on my report.
Is there a VM Rep on here at all?0 -
There isn't a rep no unfortunately.
Certainly getting it showed as satisfied on your credit file would be viewed better than it being outstanding.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0
