Hi all
ok, this is a very long and complicated issue so I wont go into all the details. Basically my husband has been the victim of identity fraud which resulted in a number of defaults being registered on his credit reports - his credit report on equifax and call credit/noddle look awful as there are about 7 defaults
my husband has spent the last year or so going back and forth to Santander to try and get this sorted as the whole thing started after his Santander account was closed - the bank have confirmed that his account was closed and that he has been the victim of ID Fraud. Finally we are getting somewhere in that they have written to the lenders to inform them of what has happened so that they can in turn tell the credit ref agencies. he has also spoken to equifax directly too although they werent too helpful
he hasnt yet checked experian as they needed to verify ID - this was weeks and weeks ago and STILL he has not received the pin he needs so he cant even check the report to see whats on it! its all so frustrating as these defaults are not his fault yet its has such a negative impact (we couldnt remortgage) and its SUCH a hassle to sort out!
what i want to know is how can we know if Experian have been contacted by the various lenders re the ID fraud information?
in the meantime we continue to get letters from DCA threatening all sorts
my husband has been told he will get the pin number soon but im just so fed up of this all now. sorry for the long post not even sure if it makes sense!

thanks..i think i asked the wrong question i guess!
i think what Im really trying to find out is whether experian/equifax do remove defaults if they are told that they are incorrect and how long it could take? does anyone have any experience of this?
also if we get to speak to the CRA's and they say they havent heard from the lenders, can we dispute the defaults with them directly? as in, give them all the info we have from the bank etc and ask them directly to remove the defaults?
so far one default has been removed from equifax.still a fair few remaing though!
thanks0 -
The credit reference agencies report the information from lenders.
So if a lender sends an update to remove an account or default then the credit reference agency will them remove it.
I think it usually takes them around a week to process updates from lenders, the longer period is likely to be the lenders agreeing to remove the entries and sending the update.
The lenders will likely all carry out their own investigations in to the fraud before making a decision on the information they have received from the bank. Some lenders will sometimes temporarily remove entries while they investigate but them may reinstate them afterwards.
You can also query entries with the credit reference agencies, although they will then contact the lender with the query.
In terms of the experian PIN, if this is still onoing he might just want to order the postal statutory report for £2 as well, which may come quicker (usually takes a week and doesn't need the PIN).A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -

I understand that your husband is awaiting his PIN to continue with the application for his CreditExpert membership, if your husband could contact us directly we would be able to chase the reason for the delay and help resolve this for him.

As Tixy has mentioned, you can also request a statutory report from Experian for £2.00 to be sent to you in the post or viewed online, in the meantime I really want to help your husband with the issue he has experienced regarding not receiving his PIN, also address the issue and your concerns regarding fraud.

with regards to the £2 report, he has been unable to get this also! like i said complicated!!
I really appreciate your help, if we are able to email you directly or something that would be great. need to get this resolved asap really!
many thanks for all your replies0 -
I have just checked and it was the £2 report he was initially trying to get - but in order to view online you need a 'passkey' which is posted out to you..this is where they asked to verify his ID and the issue started!0

Thank you for confirming, if your husband wanted to contact me directly, I would be more than happy to provide an update regarding his PassKey, when this was issued and when he is likely to receive it.
As I understand the urgency for you both to see the credit report.

Sorry, for the slight hijack. I'm having the same issue with Experian and getting my pin to view my credit file online. It has been over a month now which is completely unacceptable. What has annoyed me even more now is that stated above "if your husband could contact us directly we would be able to chase the reason for the delay and help resolve this for him." YET, when I rang up they said I have to do it in writing as there is no telephone department that deals with online credit reports. I smell porkie pies...0 -

I understand you are also experiencing the same issue as londong, I'm also happy to help you resolve the PIN issue to view your credit report online.
You can find our contact details here in relation to the Experian £2 Statutory Report, on this page you can also find our contact details that also includes our email address
I hope this helps.
