I know this has been asked before but I can't find it. I have a Garmin Nuvi sat nav and an in-car CD player. How do I configure the two to operate together? (I have lost my Garmin user guide).

I think you can only do this if they are built in, do the sat-nav will mute the CD player when making announcements.

Is the satnav connecting to the car's media system via Bluetooth? Usually the media playback options (CD, Radio, Bluetooth, Media Interface) are mutually exclusive.

Sat Nav appears to broadcast through car speakers but there is no auto switch from one to the other if we are playing music, seems to be either or. :(

Are there any sat navs which will do this?

    Smartphone. My iphone does it.

If I'm listening to the radio/cd player/etc and I am using my iphone connected by bluetooth, both google maps and apple maps interupts with directions via bluetooth.

get a dedicated sat nav, not a sat nav app.

using sat nav app on your phone is clumsy as hell for reasons you have identified and more.

Oh well. I'd better get rid of the satnav app I use on my phone and go spend money on a satnav device I don't need - because my satnav app works just fine. ;)

well you paid about £30 or so for your silly satnav app which probably is a nuisance if you want to listen to music on your phone and/or take calls from your hands free.

I think the OP does have a dedicated sat nav unit.
It sounds like the head unit and the nav device are not suited to what the OP requires and a solution is going to cost.

That said the longer part of journeys the sat nav should be less so required, nearer the destination, the need to play music becomes irrelevant to getting to the destination.
  • I use Waze on my phone with RocketPlayer, connected to the car via a headphone socket. Android sorts itself out.

On my other car with builtin satnav, I use RocketPlayer via bluetooth and leave the car to fade out the player if it wants to give me a telling off.

Waze can be a bit flakey with poor connections, but the actual navigation is good quality. Waze is free but/and owned by Google.
