There has been lots of research around people who have survived suicide attempts. Almost at the very point of no return, many have changed their minds eg those jumping from bridges who have survived. It can help to look for an "invitation".......putting ones affairs in order, questioning a throwaway phrase such as "I can't go on like this" etc. I don't believe there's anything wrong with asking "the suicide question". It provides an opportunity to open a conversation, to ask if someone not only has the motivation but the means, then disabling their plan and seeking professional help.
