My darling niece aged 14 has been taken into hospital because she has been having panic attacks related to school and exams. She is a very young year 10, not 15 until August and taking her first GCSE this year, as all pupils in her school take one a year early.
Don't know all the details yet, and think it must be more than just panic attacks, as they expect her to be there for at least two weeks
She has always been a high achiever who has enjoyed school and any sort of challenge.
I so hope this is a one off because I suffer from depression and anxiety and pray that she doesn't take after me.
Had to post and say I hope she is feeling better soon. I have a nephew who is in his twenties and having a hard time at the moment emotionally - not exam related - hard for them and for their family.0 -
too quick for me VT

I also suffer the same as you, do not feel guilt, it is an illness just like any other. Just because it is in our mind does not make us any different from people with physical handicaps. In fact, because it is not obvious, we have a more difficult time getting it across to people. My employers HR rep did not comprehend my difficulties. I developed a severe stutter due to anxiety, and my job is 90% fast and accurate communication LOL.
On the brighter side, medications today are less addictive and less likely to "dull" us. I have started Cognitative Behavioural Theropy, and it is making a difference, ask your GP for a referral.
Remember that mental conditions are covered in the equality act.
I hope your niece gets the help and support she needs, just having you understand and let her know that will help her.
Best wishes0 -

I do so love your style, and your subject matter always appeals to me. I can't wait to see your sunflowers.
I still haven't hung my VT originalI've got it on a shelf in the lounge where I spend my evenings and I really enjoy it there
I think I'd miss it if I hung it elsewhere. It's being well appreciated
Leave it where it is on the shelf. It means you can see it and enjoy it every day there. So glad it is being loved.
My sunflower head has a dark background with irises in and I don't feel the media I am now using is bright enough for the petals. We will see can always start again.
On the whole been a good year for what classes I managed to get to and I think everything produced has been finished.

PHD (:rotfl:) if you are around how did I make chocolate ganache last year?
I think I whipped cream slowly adding melted chocolate but not sure.
Also want something chocolate to go in cake with the crew. Not Nutella and something that will not soak into sponge. Last question how many choc fingers to round a 7 inch cake?
Mum has asked me to make her a cake for Monday as one I made step dad was a great success. The grandchildren have asked for 'the best choc cake they have ever had again'.
Going to also make a pink white choc one for mum to enjoy as main cake will not be that big and will get eaten up.
Had forgotten how much I enjoy baking:)
V x
In order:
Ganache
-300g of dark chocolate (at least 60% cocoa)
-300ml double cream
- A rounded teaspoon of unsalted butter (not marg for this one).
Chop up chocolate and put into a bowl with the butter. Gently heat the double cream in a saucepan. As soon as it starts boiling, remove from heat and pour over the chocolate. Gently keep stirring until it has all melted and is combined. Leave at room temperature to cool down. If you want the consistency to be thick, but runny leave for about an hour, for piping or filling leave at room temperature for a few hours then whisk before using.
If time is a factor...
Chocolate buttercream
This will fill and cover a cake, halve quantities if just using for a filling.
- 350g icing sugar
- 50g cocoa powder
- 100g unsalted room temperature butter
- 1-2+ tablespoons of semi skimmed or full fat milk
Chuck all in a bowl with 1 tablespoon of milk, whisk. Drip feed milk in until you've reached a consistency that you want. Generally if you take a spoon full and hold it up without the buttercream sliding off, it's good to go
Chocolate fingers
Two and a half small boxes for a 7 inch cake.
Alternatively
