Bosch washing machine bearings problem

I bought a Bosch washing machine on the recommendation of Which? three years ago and last week when it stopped working I called in my local washing repair man. He was staggered to find the bearings had gone. Bosch refused to send someone out to look unless I paid a £99 call out fee or signed up for £168 insurance policy with Domestic and General. They said if the cost of repair was over £300 the policy would automatically be cancelled and they would then 'discuss' how they might help me. I therefore opted for the D&G policy believing it would be cancelled. However when the repair man came today he told me this was a known fault with a supply of a part and Bosch had made an agreement with D&G that the machine would be repaired under its policy despite the cost. I therefore now find myself paying £168 to repair a 'known' Bosch fault having invested in an expensive machine recommended by Which? which I thought would lat me ten years. I am fairly outraged by Bosch's behaviour on this when they knew it was a known fault all along - yet that was never mentioned to me until the engineer probably unwittingly told me. I had a Bosch washing machine before which was great and two Bosch dishwashers but would never buy Bosch again. I think this is totally unacceptable behaviour from Bosch. Any thoughts or suggestions?

The trouble with never buying Bosch again because of one problem is where do you go instead?
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.
  • We had a Bosch washing machine and the drum bearings failed in a little over 2 years (just out of guarantee!). Normal cause is the seal fails letting water into the bearing. Its not that difficult to replace the bearings - some of the spares vendors have videos on how to do it - but some brute force may be needed to get the old bearings out. Having replaced the bearings its all been fine since then.

That's easy - Miele. Infinitely better than Bosch and in general, last forever.
