‘They persist in pursuing this proposal even after it has been rejected by one inquiry after another.’
Mr Herbert added: ‘I understand that landowners have been told by this developer, “You know you might as well give in – it’s going to come anyway so you might as well accept our cheque”.
‘The tactics of this company are really shoddy bullying tactics and it has created a huge amount of local resentment and blighted this area.’
On its website, Mayfield said that the area would be transformed into 10,000 homes, an academy, primary schools and shops."
It's a farm - it produces food - around us good farmland used to be protected -called irreplaceable under the UDP - now since NPPF farms seem to be called "green infrastructure" with no special protection as the source of food.

I guess it's a very difficult situation. On one hand everyone says more houses are needed in the south east, but then nobody want's them built 'in their back yard'.

It's the shortage of housing that's pushing up property prices. I guess people trying to get onto the property ladder in West Sussex wouldn't agree with the farmer's sentiments.

I think I might me more impressed if the farmer took the £275m and used/donated the money to help good causes.

By not accepting the money, the people he is mainly helping are the current residents of Twineham (where the average price of a detached house is £870k according to Zoopla, and the average rent is £2,776 per month).

The man is a Knob not a Hero! WE NEED HOUSING! and he is turning down a fortune to be a Farmer? Take the money and buy land elsewhere if you still want to farm. Or live the life Riley somewhere!
  • Couldn't disagree more.

Every political party says that we need more housing. Let them build...!
