Mortgage via broker

Hi,

We are currently in process of mortgage application via broker. I am trying to chase up mortgage application via broker and the broker is trying best to give me a status update.

Although I am not in any doubt that the broker is doing his job just wondering whether is it advisable to contact the lender directly for status update? will they even entertain? My feeling is that to get the update; its just easy if you can directly contact the Lender to eliminate communication errors (not trying to bypass the broker).

Thanks

If the broker doesn't have an update from the lender, what will the lender tell you that they couldn't tell the broker?

We have just completed on buying a house and we used a mortgage broker.
He wasn't the best at getting back to us and in the end I called the lender directly. They will entertain you because you only need your personal details for them to provide you with any information.
It helped us move along the process a lot faster by being in touch with them directly, I think it saved us around 2/3 weeks in total.
It did help having the broker though because they can send documents through email whereas personal applicants have to send in the post.
Best advice is to chase everyone if you want an answer. As much as it is their job they won't have the level of care or urgency you do.

There is sometimes some mileage in contacting a lender direct.
I'd only do it with your brokers blessing though.

Lenders are often happy to fob off brokers all day long, but not always feel quite as comfortable doing it to the customer direct.

Thanks I havent got any reference number or case number. Did you had to provide one when you directly contacted your lender?

Have just had a mortgage offer obtained via going through a broker. Broker was excellent and VERY fast, but the lender (Nationwide in this case) have also been excellent and emailed/texted me as soon as anything was updated (e.g. mortgage valuation, mortgage offer etc.) so I often knew before the broker did. No harm calling your broker if it's been a while (and particularly if your broker charges to arrange a mortgage as opposed to taking commission from a lender; you are paying for his services and should get good customer service)
