I think posting this on a forum with as much traffic as this site has isn't a good idea. I'm surprised this thread has lasted so long.
Why?
The OP is just asking for advice on a occurence of card fraud and has been advised accordinlgy.
And I dont see whats wrong with asking a store manager regarding certain procedures such as photocopying card details and why they are in place.
It might just be standard procedure but at least it will put your mind to rest that it is normal procedure.
You should never be afraid to question things if you are not sure.
Funnily enough I purchased a phone from phones4u a few weeks back. They photocopied my drivers licence and passport but my card never left my sight and they only took details of the front for direct debits and didnt photocopy it.
However before handing any I.D acroos i asked what they required it for and they happily explained what purpose they required each I.D0 -

The op is not asking for advice, he/she is openly accusing a staff member at Phones4U in Cribbs Causeway of fraud.0 -
Boardybird wrote: »Thanks for that LauraJayne, I also forgot to mention that during the process of the application I had to use my card (with my chip and pin number) in their machine for a £1 in, £1 out transaction to confirm that the card was mine.
They never once asked me for any other form of ID, ie utility bill or drivers license.
Anyways, nvm - if the bank does pursue it, I hope that they do find out who it was. I've learned a valuable lesson from this whole experience - and it could have been a lot worse.
No problems
Once CPW had the chip and pin software, it meant that (for the most part) we didn't have to take further ID (as it served as an address check) - occasionally we'd be requested by the system for another form, but I'd tell the customer, and request a drving licence/utility bill. I hated the idea that I was leaving myself open to accusations. Although saying that, I'd still get accused of taking to many details (mostly when asking for bank details for a DD - not much I can do with an account number and sort code apart from pay money IN really is there lol).
Good luck OP, and I do hope you get your money back soon x:cool: Proud DFW Nerd 135 :cool:Sealed Pot Challenge - 0190 -

As the post above says, the op is making an accusation which they have no evidence of, just suspicion.Millionaire wrote: »And I dont see whats wrong with asking a store manager regarding certain procedures such as photocopying card details and why they are in place.
That was not what was suggested at all!
"You should go back to the store and point this out to the store manager and identify the culprit."0 -
Yes but if uktim read the thread then you'd see that the OP has stated she will not be going into the store, she is leaving it up to the bank to sort.
She has also recieved advice from another member who has told her why they photocopy the card.
Now wouldnt it be easier if we just read the whole thread

Perhaps I was referring to the post I quoted.
Try reading it again, was I referring to a post or the whole thread!
It's so much easier if people read!0 -
UkTim I can read, and I apologise for my snappy remark earlier. Had a bad morning.
Out of interest if a bet has been placed and the bet wins, then wouldnt the money come back into the OP's bank account? Most betting websites Ive been on are very very strict about withdrawing the money from an account.Green and White Barmy Army!0 -
Not necessarily, it may go into an online "account" where it is stored to bet again, and only when the user tells the site to send it to their account, would it do so."Beautiful young people are accidents of nature, But beautiful old people are works of art."

Yes, I know that they wont send you the money till you ask. But all the betting sites I have used it must go back onto the card you originally used. If you dont want it to go on that card you must go through a load of security checks to make sure its you, and not someone else.Green and White Barmy Army!0
