Credit report/address/cards

Hi everyone,

I have read through the article on your credit report and "rating" and also some threads on here but can't find anything directly relating to this issue which I imagine some others must also have...

I would like to apply for a new credit card but am not currently on the electoral roll and know that this will probably mean I can't get it...However...I currently rent and move every 12 months (due to the nature of my work/study) so keep all of my bank details etc. at my parents address (am in my late 20s and not living at home but always thought it better not to keep changing the address as thought this might be negative to my credit etc.) but now I am thinking that I can't join the electoral roll at that house anymore and would have to join where I am living so is it harmful to change all of my bank details to my current address (until August 2008) and then change again next year etc. etc. or is it best to leave at my parents address and write to the credit provider to explain why I'm not on the electoral roll etc.

Sorry if I seem a little confused...quite simply I am and trying to find the best way forward!

Thanks for any advice and help!

PS. I know this is turning into a long passage but if anyone also knows...if I go on the electoral roll now can I ask to appeal the decision based on that or have to reapply again - in which case I guess wait 6 months as it will come up as another credit search? Thanks.

I can't join the electoral roll at [my parents'] house anymore and would have to join where I am living.

If you live within striking distance of your parents, it may be best to register at their address.

Alternatively, you could enrol at both locations. This is permissable unless both addresses come under the same local authority, in which case you will have to plump for one or the other.
People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.
  • Thanks Moggles - they are a far distance apart so no problem with two local authorities...the only other strange situation is will having me (i.e. an over 18 employed person) registered there have an effect on e.g. any benefits etc. my mother is currently receiving...

    Sorry for yet another complication!

i am 23, currently not living at home full time and haven't been for 2 years. but EVERYTHING is still registered there, and the same with my brother who is in university. u registered at your parents place shouldn't effect any benefits that she is receiving
