Nat West issued Default Notice at that old address then defaulted account

Few years back had NatWest gold cc .
Had few financial problems that they were aware of,effectively sold my house, repaid NatWest mortgage in full, also a 9k overdraft.

I contacted the bank obviously to inform change of address.

My NatWest Cc was 2 months in arrears and they sent a default notice to the old address, this was returned to them.
Then the Default was registered,it was for approx 4k.

The first I knew about this was when my card was taken from me in a store.

I contacted them immediately and was told the account was defaulted.

I argued my case but never got anywhere with them,I repaid the total debt off a few months later through Moorcroft,in full, although I was offered a then 25% discount..as I advised it would look better on my credit file.

How wrong I was,now got a six year penalty.

I did file complaint back then but the bank wouldn't budge.

This has niggled me for sometime so I re submitted a complaint based on the fact that I never received the default notice.

Just received the banks reply, and they state"The governments legislation states that once a document has been sent,it is then legally classed as served and received by the customer".

Can anybody confirm whether this is actually correct.

Now at the same time I was running an as gold current account and a personal loan with obvious access to online banking.

They also state that they used their " trace and collect" team to locate my new address but miraculously they apparently "located me one month after default.

So in summary the bank defaulted account prematurely,
They sent default notice to old address,a NatWest mortgaged property.
They say I never informed them of a change of address,
And I was also running other NatWest Account at that time.

Its my opinion they would have had my correct address but in any case I just need clarification on the above statement from them

Many thanks guys.

they don't have to trace you before default, why didn't you update your cards address?

Also they only have to have a log of a default been generated
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
