Private Landlords

Ok so basically I moved out of my mums house and into a tiny house with my then fiance (now hubby) 18months ago. The house was ok as a starter home but it's too small and there's not a lot of parking and we've had some problems with the house that are still not fixed.
We got this house through a local letting agents who where then taken over by Abbots.
We don't want to go through an agents again as it is stupidly expensive (about £400 just for "fees") which I think is ridiculous!!
So my question is where is the best place to find a good private landlord. I have used Open Rent and I Am The Agent, we also have a look in the local papers, is there any other ways/websites etc that I can do this?
Thanks

How dare those naughty agents try to run a for profit business!?!
Spareroom is good, has full properties on there
Gumtree is ok
Some landlords advertise on their property
Beware though that whilst it is limited, going through an agent has some positives. Somewhere to complain for repairs, mostly knowledgable on the law, and some do some land lord checks.
Some private landlords are just the outgoing tenants taking multiple deposits.0 -
I have found many of my tenants by putting adverts on the noticeboards of large local companies. I've also advertised at local universities and had grad students and lecturers as tenants.0

We've found all our tenants through Gumtree, and not had any problems at all really.Mortgage free for 5 months :T Then got another mortgage:rotfl:0

Some private landlords advertise on Rightmove using sites like Upad.0

I didn't think to look on Gumtree!! Will give that a go
SuzieSue - do you search for that on Rightmove or on Upad?

Scotland, were letting fees are unlawful...
Other than that notice boards at work, Gumtree and I've seen some private lets on Citylets.
I know letting agents have to make a profit but £400 for the work involved is pretty outrageous considering the landlord will also be getting scalped.0 -

Rightmove. The agent will be listed as Upad. There are other on-line agents which offer a similar service.0 -
