I am just happy that the Conservatives won, that way the country can carry on with the recovery.

Labour said that perhaps they did not manage to appeal to small businesses. I can tell you now, as part of a small business, they terrified them.

Had labour got in they would have wrecked the country, we would have been totally subsumed into Europe and would no longer have any chance on the world markets. Observe how the markets rose after the relief of the tory victory.

As to who helped? Minibrand was a massive asset for the tories, he was a weak leader. Also Sturgeon helped, no-one believed that Minibrand would be able to resist her, especially after Salmond said he had Minibrand in his pocket.

I find it rather ironic that Sturgeon put many voters off voting labour, as she was determined to join with labour to keep the tories out. We should now give her full fiscal autonomy and let her choke on it.

Now, if Sturgeon had been the leader of the labour party I believe the result would have been very different.
What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare

But if they lied in the first poll why did they tell the truth in the exit poll?

the pre vote poll is an opinion of what you may or may not do

the exit poll is a matter of what you have done

most people don't count 'changing one's mind' as lying.

But so many people "changed their mind" in just one day. Is this really feasible?

Everyone including the media were focussing on the battle for Scotland. When the real battleground and where the election was won and lost was in the South West of England.

Much like the whole of Scotland has turned yellow (almost), the whole of the South West Peninsula has turned blue (almost).

I only get the annual registration details for one and I get polling cards for both local and national elections...

Certain people, EU nationals other than people from Ireland, Malta and Cyprus, cannot vote in parliamentary elections and this question is on the form. I think that this amounts to some two million "voters" who do my actually have a say in General Elections but could have shown up in polling.

I have always asserted that natural Labour support is down to 30% and has Been in terminal decline since the sixties. Blair went Tory and got temporary support but Labour will not be able to form a government again as its heartlands retreat further.

Well it looks like the Left are taking the results badly:

When Thatcher won in 1983(87?) Scargill called for a vote for a national strike.

What is it about democracy Socialists don't get? Democracy means living a large part of your life living under a Government you don't agree with. You can at least complain about it without being shot or imprisoned.

You obviously don't understand, so I shall explain.

Obviously, if we had a proper free and fair election, where the media honestly reported on the real issues facing the country, then we would all have realised that socialism is indeed the answer to all our problems, and Dave Nellist would now be in negotations with Two Kitchens regarding the prospective Labour-TUSC coalition government.

The fact that this did not happen is proof that the recent election was nothing more than a farce, and therefore it is only right that decent democrats should take to the streets, spray some graffiti about, and throw some stuff at the police, in order to bring attention to this lamentable state of affairs.

You don't honestly believe that one anarchist's graffiti represents an entire political group.
Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.

What mechanism is in place to stop them voting in national elections at both places? Is one of the registrations flagged as "local only" so the polling officials know only to give them a local election ballot paper?

Otherwise it sounds like a "democratic scandal" ;)

At the very least, it gives them the opportunity to choose the which consitituency to vote in, so if one is a safe Labour/Tory seat and the other is a marginal they can choose the marginal to increase the effectiveness of their vote. More "democratic scandal", perhaps?

I don't believe there is any system to stop people voting twice

but it is legal to choose where to vote : this obviously is useful in University towns.......

Here in Wales, the conservatives gained 3 seats whilst Labour lost 1.

During the entire election campaign the (Labour) First Minister was ridiculing the Tories by claiming that ALL of the growth seen in the Welsh economy in the past five years (it hasn't been spectacular but it's definitely better than it was) was due to HIS party's control of the Assembly in Cardiff and absolutely nothing to do with Westminster (clearly BS but he thinks if you spout BS often enough, people will be dull enough to believe it).

Yesterday, the same First Minister blamed Labour's defeat on the party not being focused enough on business! :rotfl::T

And that is why they lost.
