This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

Morning all,

Feel much refreshed after a good sleep and long lay in this morning I am sure a nap this afternoon will help too :D

Got a wash on the go first of three and will hang it all out today as its a really nice breezy day. OH and I are going to cut the back hedge between us and next door its gone mad this spring and is blocking a lot of light in the conservatory.

I got some huge duck eggs from the security man at work (he has free range ducks in his garden) they look a bit like a goose egg they are so big, I am going to wait for OH to get back from the boot sale and then we can have one with some bacon. Also we might have a ride out and get some local asparagus later on and have that for tea with an egg and some bread and butter !

Need to have a hoover through the whole house and a general tidy round.

DD had her summer ball last night so will probably appear here some time today a bit hung over and wanting feeding :rotfl:

Right better get on have good days all xx

    Morning everyone.

It's looks glorious out there for a change. Think I'll take myself off to the sea lock of the canal and sit with a book. There is a coffee shop there so can get watered too. I really enjoy watching the yachts and little cruisers coming and going though I do take the odd walk along the towpath too.

So that's the plan for today then. Think that's what 'retirement' should be about...pleasing oneself. :j

I had to rewash one of the living room rugs last after I spilt a cup of perfectly good tea on it. :mad:I left it on the clothes horse in front of the dying embers of the woodburner overnight so it should be dry by now. Whirly-gig is being fixed into the ground early next week, I've got the builder to do it as the ground is very stony and it'll need cemented in cos of the wind here. So, still not used my clothes pegs after all that soul searching.

Yesterday I piled all my unread books up, there are about twenty so I need to get a move on and get reading more.

My thoughts are with everyone. Good to see Dumpling posting again.

    Happy Saturday.

    Morning all,

just a quick visit in between getting myself ready and organising the men ready for the wedding.

The button holes and corsages are here. Ive laid out the suits and my 'posh dress'. We've all showered and ive got a few minutes to spare before I start the breakfasts and get ready myself.

Hubby is annoyed. Our daughter had a lovely letter from his friend who was supposed to be coming to the wedding this morning. He's not coming. Hubby is annoyed he didn't tell him and he only spoke to him a couple of days ago. I'm not surprised if I'm honest, he didn't turn up to our wedding either and he was the best man! Its strange, hubby has spent many weeks at his house whilst he has been working in London but he wont come to our house. I'm sure he has a problem with me although ive gone out of my way to make him comfortable and at ease here. I'm hoping this doesn't spoil their friendship. It took many years to heal the rift when he didn't show up to our wedding and I don't think hubby is as forgiving as he was then.

The girls and Soldier are due to arrive soon.

Its going to be a busy day.

    Onwards and forwards,

    have a great day all.

  • Morning (((((((((((((((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))))))))))) if you need one.

Well rested this morning after a long lie, just finished brekkie and got rid of two more of the spare duvets, lady came to collect them. Airinf cupboard is begining to look a bit bare.

Nothing planed, just going to slob and read. I might go up to the sewing room and sort out the nine patch top that needs quilting. There is room to pin it on the sitting room floor if I use my large cutting mat so I do not end up pining it to the carpet. I made it in about 2006 so its time it was finished.

OH found the card part of his licence yesterday after paying out £20 for a new one. Tough, he should be more careful with his stuff, gets no sympathy from me!!

Cheese pie and beans for supper tonight,

    Morning :hello:

Judi Have a great day :D

Well I was armed with a spray bottle, a clicker, a toy, a set of keys (the noise usually distacts him) and some treats. I should point out - I wasn't planning on using them all at the same time :D Scampi spotted the cat – who has now taken to sitting on the neighbour's border and staring at the hedge for a couple of hours at a time – and jumped up for a better view. He barked so I called him over, thinking he'd ignore me so was ready to grab the spray, and he came immediately. He was all waggy-tailed and happy, I was just confused :D The cat ended up on the windowsill outside, Scampi was nose to nose with it (through the glass) and he whimpered at it til it sauntered off, then acted like a big mean boy by barking once it was a safe distance away. So there we have it – my dog is a wimp :D He stopped barking and came to me when I told him to. Hopefully the other evening was just a blip, I'm not holding my breath though and will keep my arsenal* nearby :D

It's raining here, gardening plans have been put on hold again. I really hope it brightens up, master tru's friend is getting married today so some sunshine is needed for 1pm please :D

I'm just flitting about the house today, sorting bits and pieces. I've been saving jars so need to find a home for them. Eggs need boxing up, the utility room needs a good tidy up, that won't take long because it's tiny and I have lots of almost empty toiletries so will decant them to use up, should make some interesting scents :D

  • Good Morning everyone, grey and damp here again this morning but looking at the sky there are some small patches of blue showing so it might be better this afternoon.

TRU !!!!!!! he's got your measure completely hasn't he? small child in canine form, wind mummy up and then make mummy think you're really a good boy, UNTIL HER BACK IS TURNED then bark, bark, bark at the puddy tat!!!

I've just been to the sea scouts jumble sale in the village hall, they have them about 4 times a year and they are usually the source of many useful things for reasonable amounts of cash. Today I found a pretty pink and white tureen, not damaged but slightly worn and I asked the lad in charge of the stall how much it was.......£30 he said, we looked it up on the internet and we think it's quite valuable! but I could let you have it for £20! Now call me old fashioned but £30 for anything at a village jumble sale I don't think so! I don't take more than a couple of pounds in change with me anyway in case I get caught up in the skirmish to get to a stall. Really seriously they have lost the plot!

Going to make dahl soup for lunch from the rest of the dahl and veggy curry I made for supper last night should warm us up anyway, have a good day all, Lyn xxx.

    Afternoon all,

Its a pleasant day here so far.....OH has lit the living room fire, he feels the cold and as he buys the fuel from his pocket money I dont mind.....I would be foraging for sticks in the field if it were up to me, but that would b e too pennypinching for him! Will hang out the wash which is almost done and hope that it dries outside.

Judi......not sure what time "your"wedding is at, hope that everything goes like clockwork.

Csarina....hope that you get to finish your quilt.

Lyn......I hope that they managed to get the £20 for the tureen!

Just had a text from DDIL2 saying that she feels much better, so glad to hear that, she has had a tough 5 weeks, hopefully improvement will continue.

Off out with clothes, then some knitting before dinner of duck breast, veg and spuds.

    Enjoy your weekend

Afternoon all. Poor start weather-wise but the forecast was to improve and hey-ho it has!! The washing was drying indoors but Mr TA has just taken it outside to peg out now.

It wasn't a good start in the house either! I slid open the wardrobe doors to get out my jeans and the door came off the runners! It's a job and a half getting it back on again so it got left for Mr TA to sort out. Then I switched on the hob to boil my breakfast egg and there was such a flash and a bang, it frightened me half to death!! The kitchen still stinks of smoke and the hob can wait till we can be bothered trying to fathom out what's wrong!! Tea will depend on what can be cooked without use of the hob!!

We have decided to go over to the caravan tomorrow for a few days as it's a decent forecast for a change! We don't have the DGDs till Thursday afternoon so not letting DD down. I am still dragged down with this ongoing problem (I don't think the op has helped) so hoping a few days rest may help. Plus we still have the electricity problem to get sorted over there. Will see if the mobile caravan repairman can fit us in whilst we are there.

I hope JUDI is having a good day and the weather is kind to them - as well as everything going off without problem!

Enjoy the rest of the day if you can - take care all and ((((HUGS))))) if in need xxx

Gers your boat watching sounds lovely, I love sitting by the water but sadly we are about as far inland as you can get so I have to make do with the lake in the local park!

Judi here's hoping the wedding has gone smoothly and you have had a good day.

Lyn I can't believe your jumble sale price - I haven't seen a jumble sale advertised for years, it's all car boots now. I used to get loads of pretty cotton skirts, dresses etc for patchwork for a few pennies but thinking about it, we are going back a couple of decades!!

Sunshine and showers today, the washing has been in and out and I've given up and hung it over the airer in the conservatory to finish off.

Looking forward to a quiet sit down with a cuppa now after a hectic week.

Enjoy the rest of the day everyone x

Thanks Alfsman, I did enjoy a couple of hours out there. Then I came home and sat outside my house watching the sheep and the swallows and listening to the cuckoo and ducks. I haven't taxed myself too much today. Read half a book if that counts.

Hoping to hear a good report from the wedding. TA, enjoy your test at the caravan.

    Happy evening
