Wall mount for TV

Hi All

Planning on buying a 22" Samsung TV from amazon to hang on the wall in our flat/bedroom. Problem is, the wall is plasterboard and I'm not sure if mounts can be fixed to plasterboard reliably for even light TV's like that one?

TV:

Example of mount:

Any ideas? :)

Thanks!! P.S I'm not great with DIY!

You might do it with heavy duty fixings, but ideally you need to find the studs, (if it's a stud wall), fix battens or a piece of ply across the studs and fix the mount to them. Or drill through the plasterboard and fix to the wall behind if it's a dot & dab type wall.

I was worried you might say that :) So not a good idea to hang any size TV off a plasterboard without studs? Hmm

I was told by the builder that I should never ever need to use a power drill on plasterboard walls, though the instructions for GripIt do seem to suggest needing one...

Any advice on this? Something like the below:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/GRIPIT-Plasterboard-Starter-Contains-fixings/dp/B00KX7G74I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1431165177&sr=8-1&keywords=gripit

I'm tempted to just buy a mixed pack of GripIt screws from amazon and pay a handyman to come and sort it all out :/

You don't need to use a powered drill to make a hole in plasterboard but they are the obvious way to make an accurate hole.

I have 2 of these with 32" tv's mounted on them with plasterboard below. The fixing spacings allow the screws to go straight into the studs in the wall so no need for special fixings. Pretty cheap and work well. I believe they also do one suitable for 20/22" screens as well

I think the weight is fine but the key is using the correct fixings.

When you say plasterboard wall, do you mean a solid/brick wall that has plasterboard over the top? Or a hollow partition wall?

If its the first then you want long fixings to put the load onto the masonry behind.

If its the second, then you want fixings to spread the load - GripIts have been mentioned although personally I didn't find them very good when I tried them. I'd go for 'hollow wall anchors' and use 4 or so to spread the load - if you buy them from Screwfix or Toolstation they are cheap enough and I'd say buy the proper setting tool to fit them.

I've used them to hang radiators and towel rails on egg box plasterboard walls with no issues.

Thanks for the advice! It is a hollow partition wall (this particular one).

We do also want to hang a 42" up in the lounge on plasterboard but expecting to have to join some ply between 2 studs and hang it off that (or mount some MDF from the ground).

Basically, I'm thinking that what I should do is:
    1) Buy TV
    2) Buy Mount for TV
    3) Find a professional handyman in the Croydon area to come and sort out both TV's and some shelves for half a days work or something ha!
