Thank you all for your time in replying................I just seemed so surreal I couldn't pay real money into my account.

Are coin counting machines expensive? I thought every bank today had one.0

It isnt the counting but the size of the safe in these branches. They usually dont have the walk in safes of the big banks. In some cases, the safes are smaller than a fridge.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. Similar situation to the OP, gf went into Nationwide a couple of weeks ago to pay in the money she had for her holiday.
She had £200 in total of which aproximately £7 was in mixed coins (about a handfull - mixture of 20's, 10's, 5's and coppers)
She was refused being allowed to pay it in.... I can understand limiting it to five bags, but this wasn't even 1 bag full.....
Complained at the bank and they said "we don't have storage"... complained online and they said "takes too long to count"... !!!!!! its a handful of coins not a bin bag full!!!
Very tempted to swith to A+L and get my £50 referral credit and then just keep nationwide for when I go abroad for free withdrawals!

I paid in £700 worth of coins at my local Barclays branch without any problems. They said I could either pay them in over the counter or use the coin machine. Please call me 'Kazza'.0

Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0
