Restarting work - who to tell and when

Hi everyone, first time poster so apologies if this has been asked before. I left my job mid April following disciplinary action & they let me resign. I am due to start a new job on Monday (11th). I am currently claiming housing benefit (living with partner), council tax benefit, and joint JSA.

Obviously I have to tell everyone about my change in circumstances but do any of them tell each other.....i.e. if i stop claiming JSA, will they notify council or vice versa? Also, do I have to tell them all straight away of the changes or do I have a bit of time to tell them? If I have a month for example, would I have to pay back the money I'd had in that month?

I am trying to work out our income and expenses for the next month or so and it'd be handy to also know how quickly they stop paying things (presumably pretty quickly!)

Thanks in advance for any help

You need to tell every department yourself, even if they claim they will pass the information on go tell them anyway. Information is frequently not passed on and its your responsibility not theirs to inform of changes.

You should notify as close to the day you start work as possible. You may or may not be entitled to benefit run ons, if not you will owe money if you dont tell them for a month.

Do not delay telling them, and as mentioned above - you need to tell all the departments.
However, if you delay telling them, you may not only be required to repay any overpayment, but also face a penalty charge, and potential sanctions which may affect future benefits.

I started work on the 19th march took all evidence in to council etc and 1st payslip they have yet to reassess the housing benefit nearly two months later i owe 2 months rent - so yes take all evidence in but that is just an idea on timescale :)

Surely it's your responsibility to pay the rent, not the councils?

Within our council, it's typically much faster than that; I've not seen an assessment take more than a few weeks, and even then, as long as all the paperwork is there, it's usually within a few days, to give the other idea on timescales.
