Housing Benefit- underpaid

Hello,
I have a shared ownership property and have been receiving housing benefit since April last year.
I have had bedroom tax since then, I rang a few months ago and queried this. The person I spoke to said it's accurate because this was the rent side etc and I didn't think much more of it.
It was until I looked online that I saw again I should be exempt!
I called today and the last I spoke to asked if I had made them aware of this with the initial claim as she couldn't find the paper work, she then asked to send proof that this is indeed a shared ownership property.
What should I expect now? Will I be reimbursed the full year that I have had to pay the remainder due to bedroom tax or will they try and say I should have told them(pretty sure it was on the paper work)
Will the reimbursement (hopefully) be in cheque or will it go to housing (rental) company?
Thankyou in advance

They will refund you everything they owe you. The rules are clear they have imposed them on you in error. You have done nothing wrong the Council made the error. Does your HB go to you or your HA? If it goes to your HA make sure you request the refund goes to you unless you want a credit on your rent account. These are my own views and you should seek advice from your local Benefits Department or CAB.0

Thankyou so much.
They are looking into this as from today, I took in proof this afternoon. My HB is paid directly to the housing association so when should I ask that it be refunded to me direct? When they get back to me with an outcome of will they just do this automatically?
Thanks again
