I have a mastercard with MBNA. I transferred a balance to it about 15 months ago to take advantage of a 0% rate. That rate is about to come to an end and I haven't managed to clear the balance. However, yesterday I had a letter from MBNA offering a new 0% rate for 12 months for any new balance transfers made after 1 May 2015. My question is: is it worth contacting MBNA and asking them to extend the current 0% rate I'm on by another 12 months even though I have no plans to make any new balance transfers? How likely are they to agree to that? Are there any downsides to asking them?

They're not very likely to agree at all. But you could ask.0

Pretty unlikely.
What may be a more realistic option for you is if they are offering you 0% on money transfers (and if you have sufficient limit), you could do a money transfer to your current account and then use that to repay the older debt on the card.
But as the money transfer fee is likely to be higher % than another card's balance transfer fee I'd first consider applying for a balance transfer card from a different provider.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Just as Tixy suggested. Beware of their fees though. They are usually higher than most of the other BT fees I ever had.SPC 08 - #452 - £415
