moving cooker and fridge, how to secure

Hi all :)

I need to move house (again) soon and I'll hopefully be taking my cooker and fridge with me. How do I secure the doors of them to stop them flapping open? I don't want to use brown tape because they're relatively new.

Also, do I remove the shelves and pack separately? The ones in the fridge are glass but with plastic edges.

I don't have boxes big enough for the oven shelves, can I leave them in the oven? The door doesn't have a catch, it just closes upwards.

Thanks for any help,

yes remove contents including shelves & anything loose.

    String? Gaffer tape? Superglue?

Why do you need a box for the shelves? Tie them together and carry them to the car/van/new home.

They just don't teach anything useful in schools these days do they?

Buy moving blankets from Amazon/eBay - they're cheap and immensely useful. Wrap one around the appliance, then tie or tape around the blanket.

Also buy a BIG roll or two of bubblewrap.

    thanks both.

G_M yeh it may sound a daft question :o i've moved countless times (I'm in my late 40s :D) but never with a cooker that doesn't latch. Or with appliances I've only just bought. I'll remove the shelves, glass and all and wrap them separate as you suggested.

AdrianC I know the blankets you mean. I have a couple of thick blankets so I'll use one for round the cooker I think.

    Thanks :)

Get proper removals blankets. We did when we moved, and they are superb. Worth every penny. They're surprisingly handy to have about, too.

When my kids were small and could open fridge doors, we used bungee cords to keep them closed. Did the trick. Adults could open them, but not wee ones. I have discovered that they are also very handy when moving same appliances.

(he points to some plastic cows on the table) are very small; those (pointing at some cows out of the window) are far away...

Wrap clingfilm around the appliance. this will keep the doors shut.
