As well as hospitals try local colleges (all the stationary comes in pretty strong boxes) and smaller retailers (especially electrical) - they're always glad of somewhere to get rid of them.

We got a medium pack (30 boxes, varying sizes) from A1 Moving Boxes for £46.99. Doesn't sound that cheap but includes next day delivery.

Can also recommend these, really strong and a great range of sizes.

WOW! You've all been really helpful - thankyou! Am going to go through this list later and see wheres best. A1 boxes and mad4boxes sounds good - will also have a look at Argos.
    THANKYOU

Now does anyone know of any *free* volunteer box lifters!!!! :rotfl:
  • We just took a drive around the back of some local retail parks. If you can get down the access road just liberate some. Target commet, argos etc as they sell big stuff with sturdy boxes!

    They are free too!

Bookshops are also a good source of strong (but not huge) boxes. I got loads from my local Borders last time I moved.
We may not have it all together, but together we have it all

Hiya, as my title says I am decluttering wile waiting for a sale  3 bedroom semi. So far we have bought a pack of 5 tea chest boxes from Argos, over several weeks have saved the Asda (50 crisp) boxes - now have 3. We also have collected quite a few of thoose coloured plastic storage boxes over the years, some out of the shed/utility room/kids toys. Theese are now being reused. OH is bringing bubble wrap from work and small boxes(used) but we can reuse.

Last time we moved, I did not have the luxuary of bubble wrap, sooo! things started to dissapear.... like t,shirts, t.towels, scalfs to wrap the few orniments I own in. It saved me having to save newspaper and then the throwing it away.

Good luck on your move, Julie.
If winter comes, can spring be far behind?

Thankyou - in the end I opted for A1 - as they are actually guaranting delivery today - wow - how quick is that! I splashed out on their large pack at £59.99 (hopefully it be be ok for our 3 bed semi amount of stuff!) as to be honest I don't have time to collect boxes from anywhere free - although I have made a mental note to be more organised next time to save money!

Thankyou for everyones replies and I'm sure this will be a useful thread for others in a similar *boxless* position!

Tesco will let you have boxes best to go very late evening when the night team have started filling ,remember not to get too many large boxes coz you have to be able to lift them when full,I found the pasta boxes most useful when I moved
  • I recently moved and had a nightmare with boxes. I got one of the packs from Argos and couldn't beleive the quality. Took them back and did get a refund but was very disappointed. They were cheap and really flimsy no better than supermarket boxes. I then went online and had some delivered via a company called www.helpineedboxes.co.uk. Very pleased, they arrived next day as stated and really sturdy. I can use the boxes for future moves. If however you don't want to buy new boxes then someone recommended a site called www.recycle.co.uk as sometimes people place their used boxes on there. But it definetely pays to use proper boxes even if second hand. Hope this helps future movers.
