You're in for a real treat flying long haul then JB
Any long stopovers?
No probs Pete. I found the driver on TA where people have used him over again, & he's got over 50 good reviews.
I do feel a bit of a cheat using the new hotels but I really couldn't choose, so when I found them I just went for it.
What does everyone think of Monkey Forest, rate or hate?
Sounds wonderful eDicky, bet you got a few stories to tell?0 -

They're fearless critters. I've come across macaques several times, and with this lot you definitely need eyes in the back of your head. There's a lot of them, they're wild, yet urbanised.
When we went to the Monkey Forest there were a few young backpackers teasing some of them, and it's not really a good idea, especially if you get scratched, then the teasing suddenly stops!
They'll have your hat, your camera, definitely any food you're carrying, and they might even try and get into your daypack.
Best bet is to be as fully covered as possible, and if you wear something on your head then securing it with a chin-stay is a good idea.

Looking at the location of your hotel I think you can walk to the Monkey Forest entrance along a track from the hotel.
If you want a really pleasant place for lunch or a drink close to the Monkey Forest, then when you leave the place, turn right, carry on into the dip on the road, and then up the road for a couple of minutes, then you'll come to a cafe/restaurant on the right, which has a dozen or so steps leading up to it. When you get on to the open, shaded cafe terrace, the views out to the rice paddies are superb.0 -

Don't do that. Just be careful and confident.0 -
Pete, I did read the reviews on TA but hoped that someone on here would tell me different, & that the monkeys were lovely, fluffy, cuddly, docile, little creatures. My husband's a fearless, animal lover, & will want close contact with them, he'll encourage them to come to him, & he'll photograph & video them forever. Meanwhile I'll be hovering around fearing for my life!
Yeah according to TA I can cut through Monkey Forest from the hotel to Ubud, they say it's a 10-20 minute walk. Or a 5 minute dash for me with monkeys in hot pursuit.
Thanks, I'll definitely be going there for something to eat, if I survive MF.
Pete & Polly, although I do try & find out as much as I can about a place before I go, any tips are gratefully received
jb, sounds great! I've got almost 8 hours wait in Dubai on the way there
