Structural surveyor

Hi

We have been advised by our surveyor (following a building survey) not to proceed to exchange until the roof is checked by a structural surveyor.

The seller has agreed to pay for it and has volunteered the name of a structural surveyor (who he has used before) to carry out the work.

Should I insist that we choose and instruct one of our choosing?

    Yes. It might be his brother in law........
  • Does his insistence that he appoint one of his choosing indicate anything?

    I've called a few and the cost of a structural surveyor is roughly the same so that shouldn't be the issue.

    The seller is likely to have to get it down in the future, even if we don't proceed anyway (assuming a future buyer gets a full building survey).
