It has to be said that Gavin Robinson's mask really did slip as soon as he won, and revealed him to be a massive !!!!.

Another deeply unpleasant person gets elected, although Naomi was pretty nice about it. You lose your job then you have to stand on stage listening to that. Must be hard to keep cool.

His embarrassed colleagues tried hard to play it down because 'he's only 30' but this guy really should have known better. Wasn't he Mayor of Belfast a few years ago?

How could you not feel jubilant when you've just got a guaranteed job for the next five years, paying £67k a year with a lovely pension and nice benefits plus a job for your wife and maybe a couple of mates all for doing not much?!

Better still, run as a Sinn Fein candidate, then even if you do win, you dont even bother going to Parliament.

Sinn Fein dont take their seats as they would have to swear allegiance to the Queen .

Stormont don't swear allegiance to Liz

Well, all right, but what use is an mp who doesn't attend?

Here's another one - what about a 20 year old mp? It's all gone mad - I can't understand how labour did so badly.

    and the OP's right.
Cameron has little or no time for Northern Ireland and the cuts here are going to be absolutely vicious.

and Sinn Fein are bucked. They bargained on a Labour run government to save their skins. May be hugely important in terms of next year's Irish elections if they come across as politically incompetent.

I follow UK politics with interest I have to admit to not knowing as much as I should about NI politics.
Can someone please explain difference between UUP and DUP? I have always thought 2 Unionist parties could split the Unionist vote and let Sinn Fein in so always seemed a bit strange to me.
Is it all down to strict religious grounds? e.g. Protestants vote Unionist, catholics vote Sinn Fein or SDLP, with the Alliance Party being neither catholic or protestant.
Appreciate Northern Irish politics can be a bit of a touchy subject so apologies if I've got any of this wrong.
