My friend is living in rented accomodation, his contract was up few months ago, since his rent rebate has been put on hold, she now wants him out, text him to give him 2 weeks to get out, now he is worried he goes to work and comes back to changed locks, he shares with 2 other males as the 2 weeks are up tomorrow, she text him today telling him to get out tomorrow?
Can she do this? Does she not have to give him 1 months notice in writing? We in Scotland.
She wants all backdated rent and refuses to give him a reference for another place.

Does the landlady live in the same house or elsewhere?0

Tell your friend to ring Shelter Scotland tomorrow, they will advise on his rights and what he can do to prevent eviction (although he will need to pay the rent that is owed at some point).

If landlord lives in the house it's as per contract.
If not it's 2 months notice (? - pixie)0 -

The landlord is under no obligation to provide a reference but as there are arrears this may not be a bad thing. Otherwise good advice in the posts above."If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken

Your friend should definitely phone Shelter Scotland. They were really helpful when I was dealing with an awful landlord the other year.
As for notice periods, how notice is served and the length of notice required depends on the type of tenancy, the duration of the original tenancy and the reason for eviction i.e. arrears.
See Shelter's tenancy checker.
Edit: An illegal eviction is a criminal offence so the police must do something about it. If necessary your friend should escalate the matter if he does face an illegal eviction that is.0 -
The link refers to a tenant, but if he is living together with the Landlord then she is not a tenant but a lodger ...
I think the op has not clarified about this .Your friend should definitely phone Shelter Scotland. They were really helpful when I was dealing with an awful landlord the other year.
